Let's talk about fall...more specifically, let's talk about "fall in MISSISSIPPI!"

The weather in our grand ole state will seem more like summer for at least a few more weeks, if not months! We go back to school and the football games will soon kick off, but the hot, humid Mississippi summer seems to never go away.

We have had a GREAT first week of business at the HOME store. I have quickly learned that the home store is much different than the boutique...when you sell a pair of jeans no one notices...when you sell two sofas and a bed...there's a BIG hole in the store and you have to get moving! It is definitely a BIG, BUSY job! and I LOVE IT!

There was a time when “resale” stores were dark, grimy thrift shops where you would shamefully dig for an oversized pair of overalls to sport for the annual square dance at the church fellowship hall. But as we all know, times are changing and the resale route has become a common road for many shoppers.

Shopping resale is no longer shameful for the Louis toting soccer mom who would have once scoffed at purchasing an item “previously owned by someone else!” Believe it or not, it’s actually the hottest trend in the shopping circuit.

Conversations between you and your girlfriends have likely changed in the past few months. You probably went from talking about manis and pedis to budgets and mortgage rates. Not too appealing if you ask me. But we are facing a time where we, the women of the household, must be conscientious of how much money we spend on tube of toothpaste, much less the grooming of our feet.

It’s all about giving up something these days…to save money – to save the environment.

But DO you have to give up everything?

I don’t think so.

I truly believe that a woman should never have to sacrifice her sense of style. Her wardrobe and her home should be a refection of who she is. That is why I believe that “great style was MINT to be shared.”

Do you have a friend that can read your mind? One that can complete your sentences, knows what you are thinking before you do, and supports the decisions you make on a daily basis?

What if that friend was also your employee? What a blessing, right?

My dear Liz came to work for me the first month the store was opened in August of 2007. She walked into MINT in a t-shirt and jeans with her class schedule on a sticky note! Who would have thought that day that she would soon become part of the MINT family...a part of MY family, too?!? Elizabeth has been with me for almost 2 years now and has been the Store Manager at MINT for half of that time.

You might catch her saying that MINT is HER store...and well, it sorta is. She has poured her heart, her energy, and her time into "our" store for the past two years.....

and now...
she's leaving me for the BIG CITY!

As appealing as it sounds to run a consignment shop in Mississippi, the internship that she has with Escada in NYC is tearing her away! I am SO proud of her! After a summer of interning with Escada in London, they didn't hesitate to offer her a similar position in New York.

She is not just employee. She has become one of my dearest friends who I can count on for anything, not just at the store! She is loyal, hard-working, passionate, brutally honest, and unique. She loves my child. She has a great sense of style and an eye for color. She is confident and compassionate. She may have gotten her start at a little consignment shop in Mississippi, but for Liz, the sky is the limit!

I almost didn't make it through SPRING BREAK without her! What on earth will I do when she is gone for good?!?

We love you! Can't wait to come visit!

On the eve of the bag sale....

(at 11pm they were a little delirious but still working hard)

I couldn't make it through a bag sale Saturday without my wonderful crew!

They lined up early and were ready to roll when we opened the doors!

This sweet girl had a plan! Grab what you want..THEN stuff your bag!
(I'm pretty sure she got about 10 pair of jeans...including a pair of True Religions!)

Once again, the BIG BAG SALE was a great success!

On May 1, 2009, MINT will expand its space and services to sell home furnishings and accessories. Located in the same shopping center as the boutique, the home store will feature antiques, eclectic accessories, architectural oddities, and sophisticated furnishings.

We cannot wait to open the doors in May, but for now, we need YOUR help!

Our Consignor Agreement

Consignor Agreement

Consignors will receive 50% of the final selling price of all home goods and 40% of the final selling price of all clothing and accessory items. All pricing isat the sole discretion of mint. All items are subject to sales and/or discounts at any time during the consignment period.
Consignors may pick up their money at the store at any time they have a positive balance on their account. Checks will be issued monthly and will be mailed at the first of each month provided you have a balance of $25 or more.
If your balance is below $25 it will carry over to the next month. ALL consignors with a positive account balance, regardless of the amount, will be paid on January 1 and July 1 of each year. A fee of $1.00 is charged to process checks.
A one-time consignor set up fee of $10.00 will be deducted from your first commission check.
A buyer’s fee will be added to the price tag of each item. That fee is passed on to the buyer and will not be reflected on your inventory list.
The consignment period for all items is 90 days. Items that are not sold or picked up after 90 days will become the sole property of mint and may be donated to local charity organizations without notice. Unsold items may be picked up any time during the consignment period, with 24 hours notice.
Consignors have 72 hours from the time of their request to pick up their items or they become the sole property of mint. It is the responsibility of the consignor to keep track of the date in which your consignment period expires.
If we later discover a flaw that was missed at intake, the item will be donated to charity without notice.
mint is not liable for loss or damage of consigned items through fire, theft, vandalism, natural disaster or any other cause.
By signing the contract, the consignor states that he/she is the sole owner of the merchandise being consigned to mint.

Thanks so much to all of you who made our first BIG BAG SALE a HUGE success....AND for those of you who couldn't make it, you DO NOT want to miss out on our next bag sale.

We opened at 9 am and by 8:30 there was a line all the way down the side of our building and people were having to park in the next parking lot.

It was UNBELIEVABLE the amount AND quality of items that people were stuffing in their bags!!! I saw SEVEN jeans, prom dresses, business suits and shoes all stuffed in one bag or another. It was a fun event and the customers had a great time.

It was a little chaotic with all the people in our store!!!

Maybe you didn't come because you aren't a "digger." Well guess what!?! NO digging! Everything is hanging on racks with the exception of pants and tees which were neatly organized into stacks by size.

We plan on having a BIG BAG SALE at the end of each season.....See you in September?

a little closet tip...

Not sure if you should get rid of something in your closet? Think you will wear it someday it someday to something? Here is a little tip to help you out...

Go into your closet and turn all of your hangers around where the open side of the hook is facing you. When you wear something and put it back in your closet, hang the hanger in the opposite direction. (The way you would normally hang things.) After 6 months, you should get rid of anything STILL on an open-faced hanger! If you don't wear it in 6 months, you are wasting MONEY. Bring it to MINT and make some CASH....and then buy something new that you are actually going to wear!
